I’m sure you’ve seen those postcard photos with incredible views and the most stunning overwater bungalows with private pools. Those destinations do exist!!
There are 2 destinations that have the most beautiful water with hues of blue and aquamarine and stunning over water bungalows … French Polynesia and the Maldives. (And if you want that over water bungalow experience without the 20 hour trip from the East Coast, I will share with you the newest over water bungalow experience to be available in the Caribbean this Fall).
MALDIVES – A tropical nation in the Indian Ocean made up of over one thousand islands. It is known for its beaches, blue lagoons and extensive reefs. Arriving in the capital of Male you will be whisked away to your resort via a seaplane or speedboat.
If you are seeking true relaxation, water sports, privacy in your own over water villa with plunge pool, fine dining and pampering – look no further than the Maldives. Some hotels are surrounded by coral reefs so you can jump in from your villa for the most incredible snorkeling experience.
The unrivaled luxury and perfect beaches found here mean that this tiny country sees about 1 million visitors a year. There are many luxury resorts offering the most discerning traveler much pampering and attention.
Every resort in the Maldives is its own private island, and with over 100 to choose from the only problem is selecting where you want to stay. At the top end, the world’s most exclusive hotel brands compete with each other to attain ever-greater heights of luxury, from personal butlers and private lap pools to in-room massages and pillow menus.
FRENCH POLYNESIA – A picture perfect tropical paradise awaits you in Tahiti and her islands. Rugged mountain peaks, coral reefs, turquoise blue lagoons, white sand, palm fringed beaches, and luxuriously intimate resorts, this is the paradise of the Tahiti islands.
One hundred plus islands form French Polynesia in the South Pacific. Out of these the most popular are Bora Bora, Moorea, and Tahiti.
Bora Bora – Quite possibly one of the most romantic islands in the world. Mount Otemanu rises from its center, with lush tropical valleys below surrounded by tranquil blue waters and shimmering white sands. Surrounding the main island in a ring are tiny islands called motus. Bora Bora’s luxurious resorts feature overwater bungalows, floating pools, thatched-roof villas, and expansive ocean views. There are resorts on the mainland and on the motus.
Moorea – Seductive and awe-inspiring, Moorea is a mere 12 miles from Tahiti but feels a world away. Majestic mountain ridges and a wide shallow lagoon frame the unique heart shape of Moorea.
Tahiti – Crowned by a circle of majestic peaks, the largest island of the country towers above the ocean like a proud royal queen. Tahiti has much more nightlife and shopping than Moorea and Bora Bora, more of an urban/city feel especially in is capital, Papeete.
The French Polynesian islands offer a little more activity than the Maldives. Aside from the magnificent water activities, you can also enjoy 4x4 mountain adventures and hiking tours.
Lastly, a first of its kind in the CARIBBEAN – luxury all-inclusive over water villas! Perched on a deck floating above turquoise waters, these spectacular accommodations feature see-through glass floors for ocean viewing, a tranquility soaking tub, an over the water hammock for two and a private infinity pool, plus your own butler. These villas are brand new with travel starting in November.
These over water bungalow destinations are fantastic romantic getaways and also make an unforgettable honeymoon experience.
