While enjoying pristine beaches you can explore some of the world’s most beautiful areas in a safe environment.
Here are my top recommendations:
Belize - Known for its lush rainforests and Mayan ruins, but it’s most famous for its snorkeling and scuba diving, which are among the best in the world: The barrier reef off shore is second only to the Great Barrier Reef off Australia, and visitors can see turtles (both green and leatherback), nurse sharks, stingrays, and a variety of tropical fish. Divers swarm the Blue Hole, a large sinkhole.
Belize has so much to offer and best of all it is not over commercialized. You can explore the beachy resort towns and the jungly interior so you get a taste of all the adventures the country has to offer. Final perk: this is an English-speaking country and a short flight away to Central America.
Costa Rica – From an active volcano to stunning hot springs and beautiful beaches, this country is a nature lover’s paradise. Each landscaped trail leads to a different surprise: a bridge, waterfall, or natural pool.
Costa Rica’s national parks have so much to offer, with easy hiking trails you will have a blast spotting exotic monkeys and other animals. On the outskirts of the parks are white-sand beaches, where you can snorkel through schools of tropical fish, sign up for surf school, or have a picnic on the beach.
Whether it's taking in the sights from a zip-line swing through the treetops of the rain forest or riding horses on the beach, Costa Rica has outdoor activities for everyone to enjoy.
Hawaii - From stunning beach areas, to the crashing surf of the North Shore, Hawaii is a beach destination like no other. Visit the USS Arizona Memorial, site of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Take a drive along the scenic Hana Highway for the most amazing views. Snorkel, swim with sea turtles and enjoy the thrill of a zip-line! Don’t miss the sunrise or sunset at the top of Haleakala volcano on Maui.
All without the hassle of a passport! You won't need to convert currency to take surf lessons, explore active volcanoes, or go whale watching. Really, the only difficulty is choosing which island to visit: Do you prefer the pristine beauty of Kauai, the modern luxury of Oahu, the award-winning beaches of Maui, or the natural wonders of the Big Island?
Stay tuned for my detailed review of Hawaii. My family and I just returned from an amazing vacation in Oahu and Maui.
