Looking for a tranquil island in the Caribbean to bask in the sun and enjoy the beautiful crystal clear waters and powdery soft sand? The island of Anguilla might have just what you need…
My family and I vacationed in Anguilla this past November. It is a very relaxing island with 33 beaches, many beach bars and restaurants. If a shopping spree is on your wish list you won’t accomplish that here. There are no large shopping areas in Anguilla, primarily just the hotel shops and a few you may find around Sandy Ground. You’ll need to take the ferry over to St. Maarten for some of the best duty free shopping in the Caribbean.
The island is tiny, with a small airport you are likely to arrive in neighboring St. Maarten. There are a few options for getting over to Anguilla. 1– public water ferry 2– private boat charter or 3- short flight. We arranged for a private boat charter and it was a wonderful experience to be whisked away on a boat for a beautiful 20 minute ride over to Anguilla.
There are many beautiful hotels on the island, everything from small boutique hotels to larger resorts. The service in Anguilla is top notch. All resorts have incredibly attentive staff. The service at the beach is like no other. They set up your lounge chairs every morning with towels and cooler bags with water bottles. This is not the type of island where you need to get up at 6am to reserve beach chairs, that’s way too much work for a vacation!
One of my favorite things about Anguilla, and one of the most unique, is that most of the restaurants on the island are right on the beaches. Everything from little shacks to fancy restaurants sit right on the sand. So you are always enjoying the beach either admiring the views during the day or dining to the sound of the ocean at night. That was truly spectacular!
Far from the crowds, Anguilla is the perfect retreat for an indulgent, exclusive getaway for the discerning traveler, dedicated to the simple pleasures of basking in the sun, taking sunset strolls, sailing and snorkeling. It is also a popular venue for weddings and honeymoons.
