Want to escape to the authentic Italian countryside without the crowds and a ton of tourists?
Welcome to Umbria…
Umbria is in central Italy just east of Tuscany. This spectacular area is lush, mountainous, and earthy. Traveling through Umbria you’ll still see grandmothers in the fields wearing dresses with their aprons and making pasta by hand in their kitchens.
WHAT IS UMBRIA KNOWN FOR…
MEDIEVAL HILLTOP TOWNS and ancient walled cities dating back to the fourteenth century
Spectacular LUSH LANDSCAPE with the most beautiful mountains
GASTRONOMY - specifically its butchers and their famous salumi (fine Italian cold cuts) - Umbria is Italy’s largest producer of black truffles so truffle dishes are of their specialties
EXPERIENCES TO ENJOY IN UMBRIA…
Explore some of the spectacular CITIES in this region… Perugia is a lively walled city and the capital of Umbria, Orvieto is a beautiful medieval town famous for its stunning cathedral and underground city. And the picturesque city of Assisi (one of my favorites in this region!).
ADVENTURE Activities… Monti Sibillini National Park in Umbria offers zip lining, horseback riding, biking, whitewater rafting, and paragliding.
GASTRONOMIC experiences… foodies will indulge in the traditional meats of this region and its black truffles. Go truffle hunting with the hunter and his dogs, then enjoy the most spectacular lunch on his property. Enjoy a cooking class to learn about the Umbrian specialties. Visit a local farm to learn all about the Umbrian pigs and how their famous meats are produced.
Visiting Umbria was like stepping back into another century. It was raw, earthy, and warm. The mountains, the sunsets, and the overall vibe was incredibly special. And the gastronomic experiences were like no others.
