How to Vacation in Italy Without the Crowds

Are you dreaming about your next trip to Europe but concerned about the crowds?⁠ ⁠ We have been staying away from people for about a year. It will definitely take some time to feel comfortable in crowded places.⁠

Year after year, Italy continues to be the most desired vacation destination. This diverse country draws visitors for its history, culture, exquisite cuisine, wine regions, and coastal towns. And for many, Italy is the first country they want to visit once our world recovers.

But…

Perhaps being in crowded cities like Florence and Rome is not what you’re envisioning for your first post COVID vacation. There are so many spectacular places to visit throughout Italy where you don't need to be shoulder-to-shoulder with other people.⁠

In this week’s Blog I’m inviting you to learn about 5 spectacular destinations in Italy where you can enjoy ‘la dolce vita’, the delicious foods and wine, and soak in the culture without worrying about the crowds. Those other iconic cities will still be there for us to explore when we are ready.

The Countryside… Umbria

Umbria is in central Italy just east of Tuscany. This spectacular area is lush, mountainous, and earthy. Traveling through Umbria you’ll still see grandmothers in the fields wearing dresses with their aprons and making pasta by hand in their kitchens. Umbria is known for its medieval hilltop towns, ancient walled cities, and its spectacular lush landscape. Gastronomy is an important part of this region, specifically truffles and salumi (fine Italian cold cuts). Plus, Monti Sibillini National Park in Umbria offers numerous adventure activities including zip lining, horseback riding, biking, whitewater rafting, and paragliding.

Islands… Sardinia

The Italian islands are quite spectacular. And once you’ve had a taste of Italy you'll want to learn about exploring some of the lesser known regions and its islands. Sardinia is the second largest island in Italy. It can be reached by a short flight from many European cities. Sardinia is known for its heavenly food, rich culture, pristine beaches with white sand and turquoise waters, Roman ruins, medieval towns, and luxury hotels. Plus, Sardinia’s mountains and forests offer the ideal setting for spectacular hikes.

Italian Lakes…

A destination offering relaxation, breathtaking views (lakes surrounded by the most majestic mountains), exploring charming towns, fine cuisine, hotels with premium service, hiking opportunities and boating… that sums up the Italian lakes. Take a direct 7-hour direct flight (from the New York area), to Milan. Then get whisked away by our driver to your hotel on the lake. Be pampered by the most hospitable staff, enjoy spa treatments, and explore this stunning region. This area is truly magical and one of my favorite regions in Italy.

The Mountains… Dolomites

This mountain range in northeastern Italy is a nature lover’s paradise. This region features some of the most beautiful mountain landscapes. There are a variety of accommodations ideal for families, romance, skiers, hikers, cyclists or for wellness retreats. Enjoy luxury hotels, gourmet cuisine, and spend the day with your professional mountain guide in one of the most magnificent places in Europe.

Wine Country… Tuscany

This region in central Italy is famous for its wine. But the area has a wealth of treasures. Whether staying in a private villa or in one of the amazing hotels in the countryside, you can enjoy experiences such as visiting wineries (by car or bike tour!), taking a cooking class and exploring the charming villages and medieval towns. There are several regions within Tuscany producing different wines... Chianti, the Bolgheri region (known for its Super Tuscans), and Brunello di Montalcino, to name a few. Tuscany will not disappoint and you will want to visit again and again!
